Trick #4. Interrupting a conversation and not being able to wait for a turn in conversation is one of the issues that happen in most families. Interrupting has much to do with a child's inability to delay gratification (impulse control/patience). The way our kids interrupt us, the same way they will interrupt their friends and teachers. Therefore, it is an important skill to work on at home. As you know, telling kids, 'Stop interrupting' is not helping because a second later your child interrupts again :) Why? Because by saying, "Stop", we are telling kids WHAT not to do, but we are not giving them the tools for HOW not to interrupt. If they knew how not to interrupt, they wouldn't interrupt. Teaching children to wait their turn in conversation is not only important for social communication but also it is a great way to train a child's ability to delay gratification.
